BYD May Sales Up 38% YoY

BYD Company (1211.HK recorded sales of 45,020 vehicles in May, up 38% annually, 163.com reported June 7. The company sold 22 electric cars in May and targets sales of 1,000 electric vehicles by the end of 2010, the report said.

Statistics from China Automotive Technology & Research Center showed that a total of 1.19 million vehicles were sold in China in May 2010, up 30% annually but down 14% from the previous month, according to the report.

BYD does not plan to expand its production capacity for new energy vehicles beyond its current level of 1,000 units this year, despite government incentives for electric car buyers, according to BYD spokesman Wang Jianjun, cited in the report...
