Unicom: iPhone Sales at 5,000 in Four Days
China Unicom (NYSE:CHU, 0762.HK, 600050.SH) recorded 5,000 sales of the Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL) iPhone 3GS version within four days of its release, reports China Business News quoting President Lu Yimin on November 3. Unicom officially began selling the iPhone in mainland China on October 30.
Unicom is satisfied with iPhone sales, expects sales to impact fourth quarter mobile business revenue and aims to add 1 million 3G users each month, said company Chairman Chang Xiaobing. Reports on November 4 said that Unicom had more than 1 million 3G users by the end of October.
Unicom expects iPhone sales to increase fourth quarter mobile business revenue, said Chang; it's currently unknown whether sales statistics will include sales in Apple stores and among Unicom employees, said the report.
China Unicom plans to spend more than RMB 100 million to market the iPhone after its official release, as stipulated by its contract with Apple, said the report.
