Jiangsu City Sets Sail for 2.4GW of Wind Power
Nantong, a city in Jiangsu province, plans to construct a GW-level offshore wind power base and hopes to increase the city's offshore wind power installation to 2.4GW by 2020, reports in-en.com. The overall plan for a 3.15GW offshore wind plant in Nantong's Rudong county passed expert review in April, said the report. When complete, the Rudong plant will generate about 7 billion kWh of electricity per year, said the report.
By the end of 2008, eight wind power projects were completed or in the works in Nantong, with total installation capacity of 992MW, said the report. Four of the projects were connected to the grid and had combined capacity of 442MW by the end of 2008, said the report.
NDRC officials said in January that China's offshore wind capacity could reach 100-200GW, and China's eastern coast, especially the tidal flats near Jiangsu province, has favorable conditions for wind power. China's wind power capacity exceeded 10GW in January and was all based on land.
China has called for nationwide installed wind power capacity of 150GW by 2020.
