Strong Growth Lands Chinese Box Offices Among Global Top Ten
Chinese box offices booked RMB 4.22 billion in 2008, up 26.69% year-on-year, to become one of the world's top ten movie markets, reports Chinafilm.com quoting preliminary statistics released by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT). China ranked third in the number of films released with more than 400 feature films in 2008.
Box office revenue from domestic Chinese films increased 42.31% year-on-year in 2008 to reach RMB 2.57 billion, representing 61% of total revenue, said the report. China Film Group Corporation's movie "Red Cliff" (part 1) booked RMB 310 million domestically and RMB 700 million globally, said the report.
