Alipay Hits 270m Users
Alibaba's online payment tool Alipay recorded a total of 270 million users by late 2009, 163.com reported January 22. Alipay announced that it had surpassed 200 million users by July and reached daily transaction volume of RMB 1.21 billion by December 7.
In his speech at Alipay's January 22 annual dinner, Alibaba CEO and Chairman Jack Ma said that Alipay's 2009 performance was not yet satisfactory, and he encouraged Alipay employees to take risks and be creative to improve the service. Alibaba Group appointed its Chief Personnel Officer Peng Lei as CEO of Alipay on January 21.
