Google Employees -- Where To If Not China?
After all Google (Nasdaq:GOOG) China employees lost access to Google's global database, a portion of Google China employees have been transferred to Hong Kong to continue their work, National Business Daily reported January 15, quoting a Google employee on the evening of January 14. "Employees that have not left are continuing to show up to work in Google's Beijing headquarters but basically have nothing to do," the employee said.
Unconfirmed rumors said that Google had already given up negotiating with authorities by the previous night, and planned to withdraw from China by the end of February 2010, the report said.
According to a Google employee compensation plan posted on an online forum, employees will be compensated according to their duration at the company, with tenured employees receiving "N+5" or "N+6" monthly compensation and new employees receiving "N+1" or "N+2" monthly compensation (N = months at the company), the report said.
Google headquarters plans to search globally for positions for laid off employees according to their experience and interest, said the report quoting Google employee comments to media. If employees are unwilling to accept assignments for personal reasons, they can also receive "generous" compensation, staff said.
