Sources: GAPP Asks NetEase to Stop "WoW" Charges by 1/17
China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) has ordered NetEase (Nasdaq:NTES) to suspend charging for its licensed 3D MMORPG World of Warcraft ("WoW") by January 17, ccw.com.cn reported January 12 quoting "reliable sources." The game must resume free-of-charge beta testing, similar to its status before September 19, 2009, or NetEase will face the suspension of its Internet access and a huge fine, the source said.
Earlier rumors said that GAPP might impose a fine of between RMB 150 million and RMB 500 million on NetEase for beginning commercial operation of "WoW" without GAPP approval.
