Shanghai Unicom Testing iPhone App Sharing
A senior executive at China Unicom's (NYSE:CHU, 0762.HK, 600050.SH) Shanghai subsidiary said that Shanghai Unicom is testing "Wan Jia Ying" (Player Camp) an online platform on which Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL) iPhone users can exchange information and share content, qq.com reported December 9. The executive denied rumors that "Wan Jia Ying," which has been under testing since August, will become China Unicom's application software platform, the report said.
According to a report by c114.net citing a post on an unspecified 3G forum, China Unicom's application software platform web address redirects to Wan Jia Ying. The site provides more than 270 applications, ranging from free to RMB 10 to download.
An unnamed China Unicom employee revealed November 6 that China Unicom is developing an application store to work in conjunction with Apple's AppStore.
