Ministry: China's Polysilicon Demand Exceeds Supply
According to two internal reports from China's Ministry of Science, China's demand for polysilicon is expected to exceed its supply by more than 10,000 tons in 2009, 21st Century Business Herald reported December 3. The two reports indicate that domestic polysilicon production will reach 17,000 tons in 2009, the equivalent of 3.5GW of solar cells; China expects to import 10,000 tons of polysilicon this year but will consume a total of over 35,000 tons of polysilicon.
The NDRC and nine ministries released a notice in October with guidelines to rein in overcapacity and duplicate construction in six industries, including polysilicon.
