Alibaba's consumer-focused e-commerce site Taobao.com has raised its technology service charges for sellers on its business-to-consumer (B2C) channel Taobao Mall to RMB 6,000 per year, Donews reported citing the company's 2010 client contracts. The company's required deposits have increased to RMB 10,000, the report said. In 2007, Taobao charged clients in different classes, with charges ranging from RMB 600 to RMB 1,800 per quarter, the report said.

An unnamed source said Taobao.com plans to release a new platform to sell home appliances and electronics goods through a logistics joint venture with an unnamed Shanghai-based logistics company, 163.com reported. An insider closed to Taobao.com said that the platform is based on information sharing rather than being directly engaged in sales.

A Taobao employee confirmed earlier reports that Taobao.com plans to release a self-branded handset produced by Lenovo's (0992.HK) Lenovo Mobile with MediaTek (MTK) (2454.TW) solutions, according to another 163.com report. Unnamed sources said Taobao plans to unveil the handset, with pre-installed web application protocol (WAP) versions of Taobao, Alibaba payment tool Alipay and Alibaba-invested UcWeb, on December 8, the report said. A Taobao spokesman would not comment on the issue while Lenovo Mobile said it was unaware of the news, the report said.
