Tencent's QQ Mail Starts Micro-Blogging
Tencent (0700.HK) released a Twitter-like micro-blogging function "Guangbo" (literally, "Broadcast") as part of its QQ Mailbox service, Sohu reported November 19. The company released its "Taotao" micro-blogging service in 2007, but halted service in June this year, the report said. NetEase (Nasdaq:NTES) is still developing its own micro-blogging function, the report said, while reports in August noted Sina (Nasdaq:SINA) had started internal testing of a similar service.
Unnamed sources said Tencent has outbid Sohu (Nasdaq:SOHU) to host the official Chinese site for the 2010 soccer World Cup for RMB 10 million, DoNews reported November 20.
