Norwegian telecom operator Telenor (OSL:TEL, ETR:TEQ, OTC:TELNY) has selected Starent Networks (Nasdaq:STAR) and Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei Technology as technology providers for the wireless and mobile core networks that it plans to construct in Norway over the next few years, Telenor said November 5. The six-year agreement will include equipment and base stations across generations and frequency bands, including 2G, 3G/UMTX and 4G/LTE, and the networks will be migrated to an IP-based platform, the announcement said. Providers were selected through a tender process, said Telenor.

Huawei closely involves partners in developing future service and infrastructure, "a factor that stood out in the overall assessment," said Ragnar Kårhus, head of Telenor Norway.
