Youku, Ku6 Face RMB 40m "Astro Boy" Suit
Enlight Pictures, subsidiary of Beijing-based entertainment producer Enlight Media and the publisher of Japanese manga "Astro Boy," is demanding total compensation of RMB 40 million in the Beijing Haidian District Court from Beijing-based video sites Youku.com and Ku6.com for their broadcasts of "Astro Boy," reports Beijing Daily. Enlight Pictures claims that the online video sites have broadcast its cartoon hundreds of thousands of times without authorization, said the report.
Youku.com spends at least $10 million annually on copyright purchases, reports qq.com citing company CEO Victor Koo.
