Alibaba's consumer-focused e-commerce site Taobao.com has launched its search engine at search.taobao.com, Sina reported October 20. Taobao.com denied rumors that it had partnered with Google (Nasdaq:GOOG) on the platform, according to the report. Alibaba Group Vice President and Taobao.com Vice President Lu Peng said in an October 20 interview with qq.com that Taobao.com will not consider offering bid-ranked slots on search results but may introduce ad space to the right of the page. Lu also said that business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce site Alibaba.com (1688.HK) and Taobao.com have not used Yahoo's (Nasdaq:YHOO) search technology for some time since the technology is not suitable to offer product searches. According to Cctime.com, the service offers product searches, comparisons, details, comments and shopping guidance.

Taobao plans to partner with Lenovo (0992.HK) to produce around 300,000 customized handsets with a pre-installed wireless application protocol (WAP) version of the Taobao search client-end, Cctime.com reported citing an unnamed source. According to the report, Lenovo Mobile's head of public relations declined to provide any details of the partnership.
