Carrefour Employee: iPhone Deal Sealed
Carrefour (EPA:CA) headquarters has signed an agreement with China Unicom (NYSE:CHU, 0762.HK, 600050.SH) to sell Apple's (Nasdaq:AAPL) iPhone in China, reports Chongqing Evening News quoting a Chongqing Carrefour employee. The employee said Chongqing residents will be able to buy iPhones as early as late August and that Carrefour stores in Guangzhou and other costal areas have begun preparing store displays.
Unnamed sources said Unicom terminal subsidiary Vsens intends to have two other iPhone distribution channels aside from retail chains including as Carrefour, Gome (0493.HK) and Suning (002024.SZ), reports DoNews.
China Business News quoted Guangdong Unicom managers on August 12 to report that the first batch of WCDMA iPhones would hit stores in September; however, Guangdong Unicom denied the news the following day.
