CDC: "LOTRO" Commercial Launch in Sept
CDC Corporation's (NASDAQ:CHINA) online game subsidiary CDC Games announced August 11 that it has completed a closed beta test of its licensed MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online and plans to start open beta testing of the game in early September and commercial operation by the end of September. CDC Games distributed 8,000 activation codes for closed beta and recorded a 96% activation rate. The company has deployed 100 server farms, capable of supporting more than 300,000 players simultaneously, for a larger-scale closed beta test that is scheduled in a few weeks.
CDC Games previously announced that it would begin closed beta testing of the game on August 25. The company licensed The Lord of the Rings Online from U.S. gaming studio Turbine.
