China Hits 20m Mobile Payment Users, Says UnionPay

China's mobile payment users grew to 19.2 million late June, after telecom carriers, commercial banks and bank card network operator China UnionPay jointly released a mobile payment service, reports Xinhuanet.com quoting UnionPay statistics. In first half of 2009, 62.69 million transactions were conducted via mobile payment for a total amount of RMB 17.04 billion, up 42.4% and 63.7% year-on-year, respectively, said the report.

Transactions via fixed-line telephones grew 370% year-on-year to 37.2 million in the period and involved RMB 335.3 billion, up 270% year-on-year, said the report.
