Govt "Getting to Know" Blizzard/NetEase JV
Related government departments are "definitely in the process of understanding" the JV between NetEase (Nasdaq:NTES) and Blizzard Entertainment, a division of Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq:ATVI), Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Press and Publication Vice Director Chen Songqing told 21st Century Business Herald July 12. GAPP is leading up the inquiry, Chen said.
The newly established company is "a new operating company," and looking into it is part of standard procedures, according to a chief of GAPP's Science and Technology and Digital Publishing Department.
Responding to earlier reports that GAPP had appointed the Shanghai bureau to investigate the JV and that NetEase and Blizzard would face punishment if the JV was involved in domestic game operation, a related NetEase chief said "the content of this report is seriously inaccurate and its main points and language are inconsistent with the truth," Southcn.com reported July 15.
