Beijing-based video site Youku.com announced Wednesday that it plans to provide technology for a new video gallery service for online sellers of Alibaba's consumer-focused e-commerce site Taobao.com. The service allows Taobao sellers to display their products through a Youku video player embedded in their online store and is expected to launch in May. Merchants can choose from 5, 10, or an unlimited number of video clips, priced at RMB 10, 30 and 168 per month, respectively. CCidnet.com reported Wednesday that the gallery service will initially be limited to users of Taobao's paid "Wang Pu" service.

Video sites Ku6.com, Tudou.com, 56.com and Youku have signed contracts to provide a paid product display service for Taobao sellers, reports Donews quoting Ku6.com Marketing and UGA Vice President Yao Jianjiang. Taobao plans to share revenue with the sites, and Ku6 has sent an employee to Taobao to coordinate the project, said Yao. Taobao also intends to release an online video shopping channel in the future, said the report.
