Insider: Sina Testing In-House Browser
Sina (Nasdaq:SINA) has begun closed beta testing of an in-house developed, self-branded browser that may be released soon, reports Sohu quoting an unnamed insider. Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) provided technical support for the browser, said a Microsoft insider. Sina and Microsoft partnered to release a customized version of Internet Explorer 8 on March 23.
Currently available at some download sites, the browser recommends Google (Nasdaq:GOOG) China, Baidu (Nasdaq:BIDU), Sina and Sina Blog as homepages, and search engines including Baidu, Google China, China Yahoo, Sohu's (Nasdaq:SOHU) Sogou, Tencent's (700.HK) Soso and NetEase's (Nasdaq:NTES) Youdao. The browser has 26 functions, including virus protection from Google site tracking, extra right-click functions, a preinstalled MP3 player, MP3 batch downloads, video search, ad filters and "anti-topic" search, which returns negative news on the search term.
