A-Power, GE Transportation Partner on Wind Turbine Parts
A-Power Energy Generation Systems (Nasdaq:APWR) and GE Drivetrain Technologies, a unit of General Electric's (NYSE:GE) GE Transportation, announced intentions for GE Drivetrain Technologies to supply A-Power with more than 900 2.7MW wind turbine gearboxes starting in 2010 and to establish a joint gearbox assembly plant under the GE Transportation name on Monday. GE Drivetrain Technologies will own majority stake in the business that will serve as GE Drivetrain Technologies' Southeast Asia manufacturing center starting in mid-2010.
China intends to increase wind energy output from 1GW in 2005 to 30GW by 2020, said the announcement. A-Power entered China's wind energy market last year through its operating subsidiary Liaoning GaoKe Energy Group Co. Ltd.
