William C. McCahill, Jr. is a recognized authority on Chinese politics and government whose China experience dates to 1975. His 25-year diplomatic career culminated as Chargé d'Affaires of the American Embassy in Beijing where he played a key role in concluding the Sino-American Bilateral WTO Agreement. During earlier Foreign Service assignments, Mr. McCahill directed political, commercial, and economic efforts in Hong Kong and Beijing, just as Sino-American relations were normalizing and China’s economic reforms getting under way.

Before helping to found JLM Pacific Epoch, Mr. McCahill was the Senior International Business Advisor of the WilmerHale law firm where he assisted multi-national companies in overcoming the challenges and complexities of doing business in China. Client matters ranged from intellectual property rights protection and medical publishing to securing Chinese cabinet approval for a Fortune 100 company's investment in a flagship state enterprise and developing the China market-entry strategy for a major internet service provider.

Mr. McCahill speaks Chinese, French, and Norwegian, and appears regularly in the Chinese and Western media.  He holds an A.B. from Boston College and completed graduate studies in Sanskrit, South Asian studies and the History of Religion at Harvard University, before joining the Foreign Service.
